A Child’s Journey into Martial Arts: A Parent’s Perspective.
Posted: April 01, 2021
It is obviously no secret that I believe Martial Arts are a wonderful activity to get into at a young age! The training provides structure, discipline, exercise, confidence (I mean I could go on for a while, but) everything a developing young mind and body needs in abundance! I know that I owe a lot of who I am, and where I am, to lessons I learned on the mat many years ago.
However, I don’t expect you to take my word for it. So, for this month’s post I thought it would be really cool to give you, dear readers, a slightly different perspective on what we do for our younger students here at the Shudokan.
Now, the title may have given away the big reveal, but humour me regardless.

What does ‘Success’ mean to you? Go on, I’ll wait.
In Autumn of last year, I was privileged to run an Instructor training/refresher course for our existing and up-and-coming teaching assistants. And in our very first session, this was one of our discussion topics.

Focus & Concentration
Posted: February 01, 2021
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
We have all been in situations in which we were simply unable to pay attention. We “TRY”, but the mind just wanders off. Some of us start having vivid daydreams, while others diligently think about all the things they need to do. We engage in all kinds of exciting thoughts, but we do not do what we are actually supposed to do: Paying attention. We cannot help but lose focus, often without even realizing it, which makes it incredibly difficult to focus on the task at hand. No one likes to admit it, but we all lose focus more often than we would like to. Even the most ambitious among us know how incredibly difficult it is to maintain a high level of concentration, especially when tired or bored. The ability to focus can make or break your success in life. In fact, scientists consider the ability to establish mental focus as an important predictor of a person’s future success.
THIS IS WHY

Hello and welcome to our new monthly blog!
This is our first post. Step one. We’re pretty excited to begin telling our story.
As this blog grows, we’re going to paint a picture of what goes on here at the Shudokan Black Belt Academy, of who we are, and why we do what we do. We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
